My Students

The students in my room are a unique group of learners. They have matured to become an extremely hardworking, close-knit, and nurturing cohort of students. Even though they have multiple challenges they are always willing to help others.

The students in my self-contained and resource special needs classroom face many challenges.

The majority of them speak two languages with mild to moderate cognitive delays, learning abilities, and autism. They range in level from pre-K - 2nd grade and 3rd -5th-grade level. They all have difficulty with handwriting and are consistently in need of additional learning tools and experiences to stimulate and help them reach their potential.

Our school and neighborhood are comprised of families that are low-income and speak a combined 50+ languages. We are a community of loving families, passionate teachers, and caring administrators, that are committed to fully funded classrooms for our students. We fundraise and give whatever we can to create a positive and stimulating learning environment but sometimes our resources are limited. Please lend your support to help my students achieve their potential and beyond.

My Project

This is the first of many fundraising efforts for reading materials to help our struggling readers learn to read. Many of our special needs students are struggling with reading and have undiagnosed reading problems. They require special materials not provided to students in my inner-city classroom.

The materials I have chosen break reading skills into fun and manageable pieces.

Students learning to read need practice and repetition. These reading materials help bring variety to the teaching of basic reading.

Please join me in helping make phonics and basic reading skills more fun for children in my classes. Thereby increasing their interests and commitment to learning to read!
