My students need 40 high interest independent reading books.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. S.'s classroom raised $493
This project is fully funded
My 7th graders who attend a charter school in Newark, NJ go to school from 7:15-5:00 during the week, two Saturdays a month, and during the month of August because they understand that climbing the mountain to college is hard work. In general, students enter our school as fifth graders and are already two years behind in reading. By the time the leave at the end of 8th grade, they are competitive applicants to some of our country's best high schools.
After six years of teaching, I've realized that the number one factor in determining whether my students make significant gains in their reading abilities is whether they read constantly. This year, my class is more excited about reading than ever before. But, my students only love to read when they are excited about the books in our classroom library.
We need 40 new, high interest independent reading books for our classroom library. These books, such as Twilight, Darkness before Dawn, The Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian, and Keeper will motivate my students to practice reading every day this year.
I know that your gift of new, high interest books that will keep kids up all night reading. In the process, they will help my students reach and surpass grade level as readers. In addition, they will give my students the gift of becoming true life long lovers of reading, and that gift might be most important of all.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
