Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.

My Project

My students love reading and have developed into avid readers. My students also look forward to our Interactive Read Aloud time on the rug every day. Books that are able to integrate different subject matters such as Science and Social Science during our Interactive Read Aloud time are powerful tools to provide my students inspiration for our STEAM projects and Project Based Learning. My students are inquisitive and respond well to engaging books that stimulate their imagination and creativity.

My students especially value books that teach Science and Social Studies in an engaging and meaningful way.

These books create unique opportunities for engaging discussions and collaboration while teaching to various subjects such as Science and Social Studies. My students love to work on STEAM projects and Project Based Learning and our books will help my students to integrate what they learn from the books with our Science and Social Science lessons and projects.
