This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a long term Substitute teacher for fourth grade I have a great admiration for the students at my school. My first year of teaching will be in a 6th grade classroom where I will teach all subjects. Our school is becoming a K-8 school, and will be opening two 6th grade classrooms this new school year. This will then result with the greater grades opening in the following years. Many of these sixth graders are older siblings to my previous fourth graders. More than three quarters of the students are from low income house holds.
My Project
I always stress to my students that reading is necessary in all subjects and throughout our whole lifetime. Growing our classroom library is a good way to spark their interest. I noticed that the students have interest in series books and have purchased some for our library.
I would like to add more series novels so that students find joy in reading.
I also have students who only speak Spanish and I want to be able to provide them books that they can enjoy. I want them to know that them becoming bilingual is great and to always practice their Spanish.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
