Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title One School. The demographics at our wonderful school are primarily Hispanic learners. While we do our best to give them opportunities to learn, some of them do fall behind because of their language barriers.
My students are English Language Learners who are ready to conquer their learning.
But they cannot do without classroom library books that are at their reading levels. Many of the students who are learning a new language read at a below grade level; an updated classroom library will help that learning gap.
My Project
Students need engaging and interesting literature to read. But what happens when that engaging and interesting literature is too difficult to read? This is a daily struggle in my English Language Learning class. They crave reading, but it's in vain because they can't understand the higher levelled book currently available to them.
ELL students need to have differentiated, high interest books so they can succeed in learning a new language.
This will propel their interest in reading and increase their stamina. My goal is to close their learning gap due to their language barriers and have them begging to read more!
