This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hardworking, conversation loving, active kids that are beginning to learn to read. Many of my students come from broken homes where parents are either split up, or they are being raised by other family members.
Our kindergarten class is composed of thirty-two students with varying needs from a poor section of New York City.
The students in this class are low academically and are in need of support and more updated interesting materials than what we currently have available in our classroom.
My Project
I have recently noticed my students' passion for reading. Unfortunately, my students don't have much exposure to books, but when they are in the classroom. My goal is to build a good enough library in my classroom where I can allow them to take books home to continue their growth and love for reading.
A take home library will be a dream.
Many of my students have shared with me that they don't read at home because they don't have books or are tired of reading the same book over and over. Allowing my students to take books home will allow them and give them a desire to read more often. They will so begin to see reading as something done for leisure and not only for work.
