Reading Is In The Bag

My students need books to read at home, so we need book bags, "Underground Railroad", "Marine Life", "Reluctant Readers" and "Fun Good Fiction" as examples.

My Students

How exciting it will be when my students don't bring home the same reading log that they have always brought home. No, this time they will be bringing home reading themed bags and activities to do with their families. These reading bags will be themed to reinforce the learning in the classroom.

The students at our school come to us with many challenges.

Some students can not afford to purchase books to have in their homes. The students love to do activities and our parents are always asking "How can we help?" I want to give them the opportunity to understand what we are doing in our classroom, and also reinforce the curriculum.

My Project

My students need books to read at home, so we need book bags, Underground Railroad, Marine Life, Reluctant Readers and Fun Good Fiction as examples. Resources that I have picked are to reinforce classroom learning. Activities are built to have parent participation. Students and parents will read and do activities through the week together. The books will be bagged for home use. Students will be reinforcing their reading potential and also learning about various units. For example: explorers, weather, pioneer life, healthy habits, conflicts resolutions, and more. I feel that with these book bags and activities it will keep the parents up to date on classroom learning, and expand student knowledge.

Our title budget was cut dramatically.

With your donations and help the value of reading and partnering with parents will make a huge impact on learning. With our students falling in the low income range of 84% these books going into the homes will be a great addition to our school. Your support of this project is greatly appreciated.
