My Project
Within a the first few hours on the first day of school, a student in my class raised their hand and said "When can I start working?" This sentiment, a true dedication to the work of the classroom, is one in which my students show every day within our public Montessori classroom. We have a diverse school in the heart of Detroit and staff that are committed to meeting their learning needs in every way. While we have a large classroom library, many beginning readers need books that focus on specific phonics skills so that they are able to hone their skills and build confidence. This is an area of our library that is lacking.
As we know, reading fluency is key indicator of success in all academic areas and having the right books is essential.
Having a greater variety of books at the "just right" phonics level for students will further build their confidence and lead to increased fluency in other areas such as writing, science exploration, and more. A plastic organizer and Teachers Pay Teachers gift card would help me organize the materials that I purchase regularly from the site. These are most often used to supplement gaps in the curriculum, or to focus in on a particular area in which students are interested in, but around which I have no curriculum. Please help my students for years to come through the purchase of these books for the classroom!
