This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What makes my students so special? Everything! My students have the special ability to make me happy even when I am not having the best day. My students bring joy not only to my life, but to lives of others around them.
My students have so many dreams, but they may not have the supports to achieve them.
I have students who are artists, sports players, video game masters, future educators, and more. My school is in a low income neighborhood in Chicago. My students face many challenges just getting to school. Even through all that goes on in the neighborhood, they still come to school every day with a willingness to learn. I work primarily with students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504s, who have academic and social/emotional struggles. My students have the capability to learn and be successful, they just require extra tools/skills in order to do so. My hope is that my students are not limited in being able to access an education that can help them be the best they hope to be!
My Project
These books will give my students the opportunity to learn about various topics. Some books will be used to help develop my students' social and emotional learning. They will learn about bullying, being different, emotional regulation, ect. There are also books about diversity and inclusion. Being at a school with predominantly Brown and Black students, it is important for my students to see themselves in the books. They were learn about how their hair is beautiful, how their skin is beautiful, and what makes them amazingly unique. I want my students to be able to relate to what they are reading.
