This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in southern California. Most of my students come from low-income families, and many do not stay at the same school for more than a year. These students are shuffled from one school to the next due to overflow and bus restrictions. This contributes to an unbalanced education.

Unfortunately, I can't do anything about those circumstances.

However, I can give these young learners a thirst for knowledge and the ability to use logic and communication to find information for themselves.

This is the first year we are teaching at a distance. This is going to be equally challenging for teachers, parents, and students. Our students are in first grade and have not had experience with technology. They need a tremendous amount of support. Thank you for your help in making this transition as smooth as possible.

My Project

Students are done with worksheets and digital activities. They have been on screens for over a year now. They are desperate for hands-on learning.

There is no substitute for tactile learning.

By using our hands, we are making connections in our brains that can't be done any other way. These connections help solidify concepts such as reading and math. To some, these concepts are too abstract to retain.

These pens are the PERFECT tool for hybrid learning! No more waiting for me to approve every answer.

A particularly damaging phenomenon this year has been the drastic increase in adults completing student work. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to keep this from happening at home, and it has impacted student self-esteem and ability to function independently in class. These pens will be a fantastic tool in training students to be self-sufficient in class.
