This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a 1st grade teacher, I see firsthand how much our young scholars grow as readers during the school year. However, many of our students do not have access to books at home, especially over the summer break. Without continued reading, much of that hard-earned progress can be lost—a phenomenon often called the "summer slide."

That’s where you come in!

With your support, I hope to send home a bundle of fun, high-quality books with each of my 1st graders at the end of the school year. These books will help them continue to build reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills throughout the summer.

The books I’m requesting will include a mix of fiction and nonfiction titles on topics that excite 6- and 7-year-olds—animals, adventures, friendship, science, and more! Each book will be carefully selected to match the reading levels and interests of our students, so every child can feel successful and excited to read on their own or with a family member.

Your donation will help put real books into real hands, keeping the joy of reading alive even after the school doors close for the summer. Every book you help provide is an investment in a child’s confidence, curiosity, and future success.
