My Project
Over many years students were expected to select popular books from curated bins based on a letter system. This was extremely challenging and never really made sense, literacy specialists finally decided that it was time to do away with this system and approach reading in a way that makes more sense. Starting this year, our classroom library will consist of two sections. One section will consist of popular trade books which will mirror bookstore formats and include picture books, and early readers. The second will be based on phonics. Students are learning skills to access books using phonetic skills and a whole world will open up for them at that time.
