Help me give my students some classic literature that we all grew up reading! Dr. Seuss books will help my English learners develop a love for reading which they can then share with others!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My Kindergarteners have learned their letters and sounds and are now ready to use those sounds to read words. I would love to provide my students with books that they can read and share with friends and family, giving them confidence and a love for reading, which is becoming increasingly rare these days. Theodor Geisel can help me do that!
I have seen their excitement as they blend sounds together and realize that they are reading- the smile on their face is priceless!
Imagine them sharing that excitement with younger students or family members!
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, wrote books specifically for kids so that they could develop a joy for reading.
My students love read alouds and these books will allow my students to follow along as I read them the story, but they will be able to provide a "community service" within our school community.
For my project, the students will create a plan for reading to younger students in other classrooms in our school. The plan will include contacting the teachers of TK students, describing weekly "Reading Partners" to the TK teacher, reading to the TK students and leading followup activities related to the book. Activities may include helping TK students to sequence the story using picture cards, making character puppets for retelling etc. By reading aloud to younger students and doing followup activities, they help to encourage literacy to the TK students. And the icing on the cake is that they will have their own copy of the book to read again and again and activities to do with friends and younger family members.
I always remember the non-profit organization called RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) and with these materials, I hope to instill the idea that reading is FUN for my students.
