it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? My students have not yet gotten the opportunity to discover books that can capture their imaginations and that push them to continue reading!
My 6th through 8th grade students are incredible!
They are talented, interested, and are always looking for more ways to learn and become better students. We are a middle school that has over 90% of our students getting free or reduced lunch and with almost half of our students speaking English as their second language.
My Project
These independent reading books will allow students to select a book that they are interested in AND that is on their reading level. Everyday my students engage in 30 minutes of independent reading to increase our reading levels over 2 years of growth (that is their classroom goal). My classroom library is limited in the amount of books I have at each level meaning students don't get to select a book that they love and can't put down. With these books, my reluctant readers will be able to select a book of their choice and finally fall in love with reading!
