My Students
Sharpening reading comprehension skills, one day at a time.
Hello and thank you for reading my proposal.
I currently teach twenty-eight fourth grade students whose enthusiasm and boundless energy keep me on my toes. They are bright, energetic, and eager to learn. So, to tap into their enthusiasm while simultaneously helping them improve their reading comprehension skills, I've created a project that will encourage them to read more critically.
My Project
What better way to peak interest and motivate reluctant readers then with engaging reading comprehension activities and games.
If funded, my students will be able to work independently or in pairs on exploring the difference between fact and opinion, identify main idea and details, and drawing conclusions with the At-My-Desk Reading Comprehension Activity Library - Gr. 4-6 - Complete Set.
Then using the Nonfiction and Fiction Comprehension Strategies cards, my students will read short high interest stories, and respond to questions that encourages critical thinking. The question and answer format will not only help improve reading comprehension skills, but will also help them get ready for state exams that have a similar arrangement.
Finally the Prefix & Suffix Puzzle, Idiom Quiz Cards, Supporting Details and Cause & Effect Match-Up games will help improve my students’ reading comprehension skills, and encourage necessary interactions between peers.
