Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students enjoy being read to. They are inquisitive and they seek to visit places through reading. However, most of them cannot afford to buy books for themselves. Also, the majority of them are reading, at least, two grade levels below third grade. They are hard working and would really like to read at grade level. I would also like to foster the love of reading. Therefore, I think that by providing the tools necessary for them, they will develop the love of reading.
Think about all the places you could go while reading a book.
Imagine the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and then finally receiving your own book. My students would like to feel that excitement and joy of waiting for their own books. With your assistance, I am positive we can make this a reality for my students. This will assist them in achieving their goal of not just becoming proficient readers, but also becoming productive citizens of this great nation.
My Project
The novel will be read in class and at home. As we read, students are going to responding to reading in their journals. They will have the opportunity to write as well as illustrate their journey through the novel, which is about a young girl, Opal, who is lonely and feels abandoned by her mother. She befriends a dog, Winn-Dixie, and he helps her form more new friendships. In the end, Opal is no longer sad and becomes happy with her life the way.
Students are dealing with a great deal of social emotional issues.
This novel will help address some of their needs. It will also show them how to manage some of their feelings. It will also show them their feelings are not unique and that they can have positive outcomes when they deal with their feelings.
