This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first grade in a large, urban school district.

My school is a Title I school.

My students come from a variety of ethnic and low socio-economic backgrounds. We have a high ELL population.

Last year, unfortunately, our school was labeled as a "failing school" due to low state test scores. Our district has also been affected by recent budget cuts. Despite the challenges our students face, our students, parents, and staff work together to give them the best possible education they deserve.

My Project

One of the areas my students struggle with the most is reading fluency. The read along books I am requesting will allow my students to hear how the story should sound. They, in turn, can then practice and transfer this information into their own reading,

Who doesn't love hearing a good story?

With a junction box, more students can listen to, and enjoy hearing stories in our listening center. With leveled readers, I will be able to differentiate my groups.

Students will use the letter tiles, magnetic letters, and letter stamps to practice new vocabulary words introduced in the read along books.
