Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have developmental disabilities and learn differently. They all learn slower and love to look at books. I teach my students morals through literature. Some of the books in my selection are books that my students just love and we do not have in the classroom.
My students are kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders.
They all have developmental disabilities. They are fun loving, hilarious, and will surprise you. All of them love to read or look at books and absolutely love to be read to. Our school is 38% special education. My students are in that 38%. We are also a Title I school because most of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We do not get a lot of materials in our classroom, and I buy most of our materials.
My Project
My students will be able to do more reading of different books. We will also be able to do real world lessons with morals from stories, as well as art projects that connect with our books. They will be able to make connections with the characters as well as enjoy reading.
It will replenish the books in my classroom and give my students something new to read.
I have had 5 of my students for the past 2 years and it will allow them to read something new. It will allow them to learn a set of morals that they will get from the books that can be taught over a week period and will stick with them for life. They will have new favorite books, and will learn that there is more out there for them.
