This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade class is a group of inspiring students, most of whom come from economically disadvantaged and minority backgrounds. In spite of the challenges they face both in and out of school, they come each day excited to learn.
I teach in an urban Texas district where crime is high and parental involvement is low.
My students come eager to learn. They desire to know what is going on in the world around them, unfortunately many of my students only experience the world outside of their neighborhood through school.
My Project
Most of the books in my reading library are fiction and not every reading level is represented. Many students choose books that are either too hard or too easy for them because of this dilemma. By having a full leveled library in nonfiction complete with chapter books, all students in my class will be able to find a just-right book regardless of their individual reading level.
Leveled non-fiction books for my classroom will mean that students are consistently reading at their reading level, practicing important reading skills, and engaging in new learning.
Please support my second graders by helping to provide a leveled library of nonfiction books for our classroom. My students' future success depends on it. We all greatly appreciate your help. You are providing all the children in my classroom with the resources they need to become lifelong readers and learners.
