it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At this moment my special needs class has only a handful of books that are full of pictures and words that are not necessarily at their grade level. My students love to look at picture books and try to read whatever sight word they can and will make up their own story. They are all in different grades and levels, which makes it difficult for them to read the books I have. I love their enthusiasm and passion for books even though they cannot read them. It brings joy to me that they at least attempt to read them. I am a first-year teacher and I would love more than anything to provide them with books that will help them become fluent readers at their level.
Studies show that getting special education students to read at least at a first-grade level can and will help them to live a more independent life.
What my classroom needs is books that are at their own reading levels that will support their individual needs. This will not only help them develop as readers but will also motivate them and feel proud that they are reading. I do not have many teaching materials that can support their differentiated learning in both language arts and math. Providing my students with hands-on materials will enhance their learning because they all have different learning styles. Some of my students are visual learners as well as hands-on learners. I would like for my classroom to have the materials needed to support all my current and future special needs students to give them all the opportunity to be as successful as they can be.
Your donation will make a huge difference in how far they will move forward.
