My Project
I am a reading specialist in an urban school. The students that come to me need additional support in order to become good readers. I teach them how to read, but I also try to foster a love of reading, so they will continue to read once they graduate from needed my support.
My class usually has five or six students, so I order books in sets of 7 so that we can all read together.
We read out loud, so that I can check their accuracy and it is more like story telling. Last year my second graders read twenty books this way. I was so proud of them. Sometimes they see me in the hallway and stop to talk about one of the books or something else they liked about the class. My students also write and that is why I need composition books.
I try to get a mix of fiction and nonfiction as well as a variety of topics. Not everybody likes the same thing and it is important to appeal to all taste in reading.
