Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school library supports a large population of English learner students. Our students are incredibly bright and dedicated, and they also enjoy reading. As a librarian, one of my biggest priorities is to support students as they embark on their reading journies. The needs of our English learner students are especially unique, as many of them prefer to read leisurely in Spanish.
We would like to expand our foreign language collection to meet the needs of our diverse student body.
Currently, our Spanish collection primarily consists of novels studied in class. Expanding our collection to include more popular titles would greatly interest our English learner students. These books will teach diverse perspectives and broaden students' outlooks on life. The requested Spanish translations will also allow English learner students to read what is new and popular, enabling them to engage in discussions with their peers. Our English learner students will also be able to more actively participate in the school's Book Club. Overall, the goal for this project is to connect students with books in a way that best meets their needs!
