The students that come into my classroom are scared, curious, eager, as well as excited to see what is about to happen in here. When they realize this is a place of making new friends, learning how to read, and that it involves Play-Doh, they start to settle in.
My students are from poverty stricken neighborhoods and my goal is to give them all the love they can handle.
Most of my students may already know each other because of the small communities in which they come from. Some of them are brand new to the country. Few of them walk in with the proper supplies needed to get them through the school year. And nearly all of them receive free or reduced lunches. My goal is to make sure that my students know they are loved, cared for, and that they can do whatever they set their minds to. We learn, but we also have fun. We dance, sing, play, and most of all learn how to love, be kind, and be you.
My Project
Who says you can't have fun while learning!? Boy, do we love to have fun!! These hands-on materials will provide new ways for my students to practice their decoding skills in small groups and one-on-one, while also keeping them engaged and excited.
Decoding is a skill that aids in letter/sound recognition as well as becoming familiar with word families and rhyming.
As our district is going through the Science of Reading training, we have learned that children need that automaticity with letters and sounds in order to achieve mastery in reading.
Although we do have quite a bit of fun, we also take our learning very serious and to the next level by keeping our students focused, engaged, and eager to learn. These materials will encourage the focus and eagerness needed to succeed.
