Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The more that you read. The more things you will know. The more you learn. The more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss. This quote is my motto in class. Although, reading doesn't come very easy for my third grade English language learners they are always motivated and ready to go on a reading adventure.

My school is a Title I school where the majority of our children are learning English as a second language.

Although, my students come from an economically disadvantaged community with about 95% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, they are all excited to come into class and begin learning. Many of our students are sent home with food to last them through the weekend so they do not have to go hungry. Most of our children get to enjoy modern technology and literature in one place, and that is in the classroom. Our children need these tools because they, like all other children, appreciate having fun and learning new things. My students walk into my classroom each and every day with big smiles and a desire to learn. Despite, their struggles that they face on a daily basis they are always ready to begin the day and learn something new. My students say that they don't want the school day to be over because they love being at school so much. My students are my inspiration!

My Project

The Mimio interactive whiteboard system will give my students an opportunity to use technology in the classroom to enhance their learning, my students will practice phonics and grammar by using the plurals and word building CD-ROMS. The audio books will be for our listening center which will help my English language learning students build their reading fluency. Also, the materials for our workstations such as the close reading comprehension center, prefix and suffix magnets, management chart, mini boards, sound phones, timers, and vocabulary station will help during our guided reading/literacy stations time. Every year now I have read the stories, Charlotte's Web and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane to my classes. A class set of each of these stories will assist my children to internalize language that they will apply to their own reading and demonstrate how to understand what's being read. My students will be so ecstatic to have their very own copy to follow along with.

Donations towards these materials will help my students be more engaged than ever before and will aide their learning.

Students learn more with hands-on activities and this is exactly what I try to bring into my classroom each and every day. Thank you for all your help!
