My students need their own copy of the book, Wonder. They can follow along while I read the book aloud to them.

My Students
Anyone who knows me personally, knows that I talk about my students more than anything. I just can't help it. They're constantly on my mind and in my heart. My students come to school daily with smiles, handshakes, high fives, and hugs ready for me. They come in ready to tell me all about their football game on Saturday, how much they read over the weekend, or where they got to go with their family. They are the lights of my life and I am SO blessed to be their teacher.
I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students all come from different backgrounds/environments. Lately, with all of the talk about the book "Wonder" my students have been so excited to read the book. Although it's a book that is above most of their levels, I would be reading aloud while they follow along. My students could really benefit from this story and the message that it offers.
My Project
I love the book "Wonder" and I love reading aloud to my students. I know that my students would benefit from being able to follow along while I read to them. I also know how much it would mean for my students to have their own copy of this book. My students love new books and get so excited about reading.
Students sometimes don't need more math or science, but they need to learn how to love each other and how to be compassionate little people who will one day turn into incredible young adults.
Wonder is an amazing book that teaches us about compassion, empathy, and acceptance.
"August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can't get past Auggie's extraordinary face. WONDER, now a #1 New York Times bestseller and included on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list, begins from Auggie's point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others. These perspectives converge in a portrait of one community's struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance."
Students learn better when they have text in front of them. This book would mean that my students are not just hearing me read, but also following along while learning new vocabulary, text structure, etc. Not only that, there are so many supplemental activities I can use that go along with this book.
