My Project

Readers of all ages need a variety of supports with the discreet skills that work together in literacy. Throughout time, there has always been a need for supporting foundational skills outside of the primary grades. Students do not necessarily internalize all phonics principles, and therefore have gaps in their ability to decode higher-level texts as they get older. This has an adverse impact on comprehension.

It is imperative that older students still have access to instruction to fill the gaps in early literacy skills so that they have access to grade level text.

This project will help to build a collection of tools to support students and teachers with employing instruction in foundational skills with older students.
