My Students
My students are compassionate, kind and motivated to keep learning despite any challenge thrown their way. All of my students come from low-income families and receive free school breakfast and lunch. No matter what, they love coming to school ready to learn and grow as young scholars. Despite the hardships the pandemic has presented to my students and their families, they keep a smile on their face and do whatever they can to keep showing up fully ready to learn.
My classroom is full of avid readers who hold reading time near and dear to their hearts.
Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our classroom library to find and read more high-interest books. Students change out their books regularly, using them for reading workshop in school, reading homework at home, and reading anytime for fun. They are always asking about new books being added to the library because they just can't get enough of reading. They value the connections they make to the characters, to their classmates and to society all due to the stories they read that open their eyes to the world around them.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. Students with less access to books at home are able to borrow books from my library and open their minds to new adventures at home as soon as they open a new book. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
