My Project
My students are hard workers who are learning to read at an older age, in Grades 3 to 5. Most are multilingual learners who are learning letter sounds and building their oral language skills as they dive into learning to read.
Please consider helping my older elementary school students in Roxbury, MA gain the skills they need to grow as readers, writers, and members of the greater community!
Having access to controlled texts/decodables is critical for reading development. Orton Gillingham has recently expanded their decodable collections so that student have more than one story to reinforce each weekly phonics concept. The content is more engaging for older students learning to read and will help students gain the necessary confidence to persevere and grow their reading skills. Funding this project will address social emotional needs directly related to learning to read at an older age.
Research tells us that repetition and repeated readings are necessary in order to build reading fluency. Having these texts will greatly motivate and support my students' reading journey.
