Help me give my students some new reading materials. Reading does amazing things for students, from teaching about new topics to escaping into new worlds, help them discover that!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If you were to walk into my classroom and ask my students their favorite books to read, you'd quickly see a lot of hands fly up and wave, eager to share their different answers. Adventure, mystery, magic, princesses, best friends, comics. The answer alone would indicate the variety of interests and traits my students have. As different as my students are from each other, they come together to be an amazing class, consistently demonstrating the power of hard work and a growth mindset, the fun of collaborating on projects, and the empathy and friendship fostered among all of the students in my classroom.
Whether it's for the girl who wants to be president one day, the boy who wants to play for the NFL, or every one of the twenty other students in my classroom, I work hard to create an environment they feel connected to, in order to thrive, love learning, and reach their many, many different goals.
For these students, school is a lot more than an education. It's a place of opportunity, where they are each cared for and respected, where they know they matter.
My Project
This project is designed to supplement our classroom library with updated and interesting books to encourage my students love of reading and access to different literature. It makes a big difference when a student enjoys reading, not only in how much they read, but also their focus and attitude towards other areas of school, friends, and life.
Students who read twenty minutes a day tend to perform in the 90% percentile on assessments, read almost 1,800,000 words a year, and develop their creativity and understanding.
Reading encourages well-rounded children who look at the world with delight. Help them find that!
