This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have often shared with my students that reading is the key to their success in everything else. My most successful students, and the ones who enjoy school the most, are the ones with strong reading skills.
My students are an awesome bunch of kids at a charter school in socioeconomically challenged South Los Angeles.
All of my students are at the precipice in their life where they are still, what I call, "sparkly". They giggle, they smile, they laugh, they are hopeful. My desire is to retain that hope and inspire them to seek knowledge.
My Project
I am requesting a wide variety of books for my students: nonfiction, graphic novels, mystery, myths and legends. These books are also in a variety of reading levels to make sure that all of my students have access to high interest, yet easily accessible books.
This project is so important because my students are our future.
Their ability to read well and think deeply will affect us all. Not only do we have a responsibility to make sure that our students are our number one priority, we have a moral obligation to do so.
