This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students

My classroom is full of energetic, dual language students who enjoy learning in two languages.
They live in a high poverty area in the Bronx. My students receive instruction in both English and Spanish on a daily basis.
Many of my students don't have the opportunity to read or write online.
My students are bilingual learners who love to read and share their learning. Many depend on an iPad or computer to read books or write digitally which often doesn't work due to lack of internet service at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school teaching remotely or blended, they are eager learner.
My Project
My students spend 30 minutes reading a book of their choice during independent reading. During this time of the day, it is so important they read a book they are interested in.
With your help, my students will have an exciting book to read and enjoy in their first language!
With these books, they will be able to read a fiction book in which they can learn about the characters. They can talk about the characters traits and be able to talk about the problems they face and how they solve the problem at the end.
These Spanish fiction books will bring lots of laughter and fun to their daily reading.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
