My Project
My classroom is a middle school English Language Arts room that serves at least two grades each day. My students work hard every day and try to focus on the lessons I present. They have a time towards the end of each period that is "their time" to read independently, do homework, and complete class assignments. During this time, I allow them to move freely around the room to be comfortable. I would love for them to have a rug and some flexible seating options to make this more special for them. I love that they have time for independent reading, but with a little help, this space could really draw them in to enjoy their reading time. Because many students will be using this space, we will need a vaccum to keep the rug clean and comfortable. Also, a carpet sweeper would be appreciated to clean up quickly and quietly during class, if necessary.
A fun, comfortable space for reading in their classroom would entice them to read more and enjoy their time here.
I encourage my students to read at lunchtime too! So with comfortable and flexible seating and good books in my class, students would be more likely to choose to come to my classroom at lunch. Reading is so important and reading stamina can be built through daily practice. What better way to practice reading, than to have a reading space in your classroom that students can choose to use on a daily basis?
