My students need two Amazon Fire tablets to use during after school tutoring. They also need pens, paper, and card stock to create brochures, flyers, and advertisements.
I have a diverse group of students. Their ability levels range in ability from students who struggle in school due to learning disabilities to gifted. One common characteristic among all students is their enthusiasm for learning.
I work diligently to plan exemplary literacy lessons and activities that challenge the students, but also allow them to use their unique talents and abilities to showcase or demonstrate their depth of knowledge.
I want to motivate and inspire my students to become lifelong learners.
My Project
I was inspired by the Chemistry in Our World Project. Students researched scientists and other professionals whose jobs somehow related to chemistry. Students then created poster boards to publish their findings.
I would like to replicate the Chemistry in Our World project to emphasize the importance of reading.
My students are not working to their full capabilities. Grades are slipping, negative attitudes increasing, and work habits are deteriorating. This project could be the catalyst for change.
Students will develop a set of questions to use when interviewing community members. Students will go out in the neighborhood and interview employees at the bank, library, restaurants, and other places of employment to determine the importance of reading. Students will use the art supplies to create a poster board to share their findings with the class.
