My Students

My students are fun-loving, hard-working elementary students. They have a deep love for all things math. Whether it's a new game, a new song, or a new strategy, they are always so eager to learn and show off what they know to whoever will listen! We are fostering a love for reading in everything our students do. That includes looking for opportunities to bring literature into every subject.

We are right in the heart of our nation's capital and many of my students come from difficult circumstances, but that never stops them from getting to school or being willing to learn.

They have been through a lot in their lives so far, but they can always rely on school being a safe place to come to each and every day. My students come with smiles on their faces and know that each day they will learn something new when they step through those doors.

My Project

Our school is HUGE on literacy and the love of learning and reading. As a departmentalized school, though, it is harder to push this love for reading in math. We know it is equally important, especially as students work on comprehending and solving word problems, to feel comfortable with reading about numbers.

The books we are looking for will be distributed among first through third grade classroom libraries for students to choose when book shopping for independent reading.

We are really looking for students to want to choose math books as their independent reading books so that they can see that reading is universal! Our hope is that increasing our classroom libraries will allow students to understand situations involving numbers and to relate what they read about on their own into the lesson.
