My Students

Do you remember listening to your favorite story being read to you? Do you believe it's important for students to learn through the use of technology in a 21st century classroom? These are both experiences I want my students to have with the following resources.

Students at our school come from low-income families who face challenges of their own everyday.

Our school has become a safe haven for the students who attend by teaching character education, a strong curriculum, and most importantly providing a welcoming and nurturing environment. Although our school is a Title I school and 95% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch, we are 80% proficient in reading and math. We are a high performing school even though our resources are limited. I would like to provide my students with more technology in the classroom, which they can use at center time or small group. I know my students will be very grateful for the new books, headphones, and iPad document camera stand, as will I.

My Project

I will be able to use these mentor texts at read aloud time to teach my students important comprehension strategies such as; making predictions, making inferences, and making connections to the text. I need to update my classroom library with texts that better fit my curriculum. The students also need headphones to use while they are at the computers, otherwise the volume has to be turned off so it does not disrupt other children working. We also need an iPad document camera stand to turn my iPad into a document camera. This will allow my students to see inside books as I project them. We will learn from checking out the text features and language up close in a text.

This project is so very important to us because we need these resources to teach our curriculum.

With your help, my students will be able to see what I'm projecting on the iPad, learn comprehension strategies using mentor texts, and listen to sound on the classroom computers.
