As a teacher in a low-income part of a large city, my students are faced with many struggles each and every day. School should not be a struggle. School should be a place of learning and adventure. I work hard to ensure this is achieved.
My students are energetic, highly creative, and eager to learn.
I was encouraged by my parents and teachers to always do my best. I knew I was going to go to college. I fear that this isn't the same for my students. Many of them are reading 1-2 grade levels below their current grade. Many of my students have repeated a grade already. Many of my students do not get any help with school work or projects because there isn't anyone to help them. I have to be the person to get their reading levels up, pass mandated state testing, and help with homework and school projects. I will work to inspire my students to want to achieve greatness!
My Project
Each day we come down to our meeting area. With a comfortable carpet to add to this area, we can sit and read in style! Not only will my students have a comfortable place to read, we will also have excellent materials to read.
This project will allow us to read in comfort and style!
The new carpet will be used every day during our reading block. It will also be a great place to work with small groups of students requiring a little extra support. We will use the weekly Time for Kids to learn about current events happening around the world. With the help of generous donors, my students can achieve success this school year!
