Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 21st-century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them! I teach 30 curious fourth-grade scientists in a small, Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.
Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.
Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children. They have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
Reading workshop has become one of my students' favorite times in the classroom. They especially enjoy reading the Judy Blume series books. I have a class set of Double Fudge and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and my students absolutely fell in love with the characters and were clamoring for more! That is why I am writing this grant: So we can have a class set of all of the books in the series!
Having the complete set of this reading series will enhance our program so much!
When you find a catalyst that gets students to want to read and learn, I feel that, as their teacher, I must pursue it for them. Help me continue to nurture my students' love of reading with these books that are humorous and ones my students will be able to connect with on a personal level.
