Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Teach for America Biology teacher. I teach an amazing group of at-risk freshmen and sophomores in a high-needs, low-socioeconomic school district.
Literacy skills are an important aspect of our science classroom. I am constantly trying to incorporate new ways to increase my students' reading ability.
The novel "Double Helix" by Nancy Werlin would be an excellent addition to our Genetics Unit. This novel is about genetics and is written in the form of a thrilling mystery.
By reading this science-based novel, my students will be fascinated and hooked into learning more about genetics, heredity, and science in general.
Your help will ensure that my students gain a deep understanding of genetics while improving their literacy skills.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
