My students need more experience with technology and reading! I believe with these Chromebooks and mice my students will improve their reading and 21st century skills.

My Students
I engage my students through interactive sorts and games on the SmartBoard. However, it is difficult to make sure all 18 students get a turn, especially with a strict daily schedule. I make sure to include relevant websites, videos, songs, games, etc. into my lessons for more 21st century exposure.
My school is Title 1 because majority of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
My school is extremely over crowded. Although the classroom sizes are small, the hallways have traffic jams and some grades are forced into trailers connected to the school. We have 2 computer labs for check out and 2 carts of laptops. However, as soon as the list for check out is posted, it is a race between the teachers for getting their class the technology they need.
My school is also on a financial lock down. Therefore, I could not receive any of the $300 I was supposed to get for being a new teacher.
I post all the online resources I use in class on a blog (and student work). I show my students how to easily access the blog to show their parents and practice at home. However, many students say their parents do not have access online.
My Project
At the end of the day I have literacy centers in place. Writing, word study, reading, and small groups. The purpose of these centers is to improve their skills in reading and writing. During my student teaching, my students had enough laptops and ipods for every student to get online everyday. They were able to listen to reading, record themselves read, research topics, and play word study games.
I believe my students need to have new experiences with reading and writing that take them into the 21st century.
My school has bought an online reading program for students but NONE of my students access at home (I can check through the teacher's page). I would use these tablets as a completely new station for my students to use the reading website as well as other educational websites like PebbleGo.
I want my students to create projects using websites like Powtoon, Animoto, Glogster, Storyboard, and much more. They will be motivated to read and therefore their reading will improve.
My students don't have access at home and very limited access to technology at school.
I want my students to start learning 21st century skills.
At least 4 students can share these resources at a time. That's 12 students a day!
I believe these tablets will give my students a chance to ask questions and research topics on their own, track their reading progress, motivate them to read stories in order to complete projects, and learn skills of the future!
