Help me give my students the opportunity to increase their writing skills. I believe the connection that reading and writing have to each other makes the difference in my students' success.
My students arrive daily with the added weight of having learning disabilities from one of 13 qualifying diagnosis in order to receive Specialized Education. I support them in academic and social learning in order for them to be successful students. These are kids that come to school for the warm inviting atmosphere we create for them to learn at their level and ability. Learning in our room comes from many areas; books, computers, and social interaction with each other. Each day is a new beginning.
My Project
We are embarking on a new writing program and I believe the key to writing success is being a reader. You need to have books that are both “windows and mirrors” meaning that I want books that my students not only see themselves in but also new opportunities to see other’s perspectives. This along with the games that help solidify the need for phonics at all levels of learning while also building personal skills. When students play/ learn they are required to take turns, be patient, and also the proper way to win and lose. Thank you for this support.
