My students need books and book bins! The book bins will help keep students organized! The books include: a book set of "Who was...?" biographies, Judy Blume book set, Wonder, Shiloh, Winn Dixie and many more!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come into class everyday ready to learn. When I look at their tables, some students have 1-2 books they are reading at a time. I can tell these kids want and love to read. My students have very limited access to books that they want to read and learn from. The classroom that I have taken over, has a very small classroom library and students only go to the school library once a week.
I teach in a school where 69% of students receive free or reduced lunch.
Our school is very diverse in population and embraces the many cultures that our students bring to school everyday.
My Project
The book bins will help keep students organized at their desk, the carpet during whole group instruction and just keeping our classroom neat and tidy. These bins can hold 3-5 books and a couple folders. Our classroom, has big wooden tables that have no designated space for their belongings. Students have lockers down the hall for the fact we do not have cubbies in our classroom.
Study shows, that when giving students choice, they are more likely to be engaged in their learning.
These books will give students many choices to read from when they have reading stamina, guided reeding, and just for fun reading! Having these books to choose from in our classroom library will make students want to read even more!
