Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district in the Bronx, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students' group of 8 are wonderful, funny, creative, very spontaneous and my future president, nurse, doctor, Math teacher and so much more than I can imagine.
My students who are diagnosed with autism are an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds. Our group loves to work during workstations and use the different materials to reinforce the class lesson. They love to type letters to send to family members and friends.
My Project
My students will learn social-emotional skills and will become more aware of their feelings and needs in their everyday life. COVID and other difficulties have changed the way we interact and react to different situations. I believe that books that talk about diversity and social-emotional learning can support and teach our students how to deal with different situations that they may be facing. It is important that we provide our students with resources that will have a positive impact on their social and academic needs. Books are needed in our classroom.
