Reading Gives Us Someplace to GO When We Have to Stay PUT

My students need books! These books will help improve literacy skills and introduce students to classics in an effort to foster a life long love of reading and learning!

My Students

Popular author J.K. Rowling once said, "I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book." As we read we are able to escape the world around us and explore the unknown. One of my primary goals is to help my students fall in love with reading!

I work with the most amazing 29 5th graders.

They are spirited and optimistic even though their reality is not always easy. In my school half of the students are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. There is a high proportion of English Language Learners, and over half of my class is below grade level for reading.

My Project

Through your generous donation to my classroom, students will gain access to books! The National Council for Educational Statistics has shown that "students who read for pleasure every day scored almost 10 percent higher on proficiency tests than those children who don't." With the addition of these books to our class library, students will be able to find a book to fall in love with! My hope is that this initial love of reading will continue throughout their life! Lifelong readers are lifelong learners!

Any donation you make to this project will directly impact the lives of the students in my room.
