My Students
I teach at a charter school that was created for students with Autism, ADHD, and other special needs. My special students are making huge academic progress as they receive one-on-one leveled reading, math, and functional skills instruction. Many students make over a year's worth of progress over the course of the school year. Due to COVID-19, I have students in both online and in-person classes.
My students require various accommodations in the classroom and their instruction in order to meet their diverse academic, behavioral, and sensory needs in the classroom.
My students enjoy learning and work hard each day despite their differing abilities.
My Project
My students would love to read the same popular book series that their peers enjoy. The Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Dog Man books are all popular books for children in fourth through sixth grades. My students already enjoy reading the Puppy Place books and would love to read about new puppies in the series. Magnet tiles have proven to be very popular in class and it would be great to have enough to go around.
My students would love to play with magnet tiles and read the same books and graphic novels that their peers and siblings are reading.
These high-interest, easy reading level books will help spark a love of reading for my special needs students.
