Our students are middle school with a significant disability in the area of learning. Basic reading and math skills are one of the main areas where support is urgently needed. My goal is for my students to be literate adults.
My Project
All of the students in my current Intensive Support classroom have come to me unable to read or write a simple sentence. None of them are currently able to read above a first grade level. They are currently middle schoolers, who up to now would be considered illiterate. This will greatly limit job opportunities for them if intervention does not take place immediately. The reading program I am hoping to purchase for them was created specifically to help to meet their learning needs. Early intervention can help prevent adult illiteracy!
