Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of our families are still adjusting to life with COVID-19: many lost jobs in the last 24 months, the majority of our students missed school for 18 months. We serve free or reduced-price lunch to over 70% of our population. We have seen an increase of incoming families that have immigrated with very few resources. Our school community relies more than ever on schools to be able to provide resources and materials to all students. Students are coming with some social and emotional behavior struggles. With these materials we will learn about different feelings a person can have and skills to manage those feelings. Students will get to read books and use the stuffed toys to express their emotions. We have a treasure box in class were students can get prices for reading books, these supplies will be added to our treasure box as incentives for them to read. We are still facing a high number of COVID-19 cases in our community, baby wipes and disinfectant wipes will be used to wipe down common areas to stop the spread of not just COVID-19 but other contagious illnesses.
