Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the most important things for me, as a teacher, is to make sure that my students get the most genuine, real world experience, possible. Obviously, taking 28 students on a field trip all over the world is unrealistic, however, allowing them to access the world through different outlets, is not.

I want to provide a classroom for my students that enables them to take a journey to a different country, a different time era, a different state, all while remaining in the classroom.

I want my students to be able to open a book and get lost in it. I want them to read a non fiction magazine and learn about different parts of the world. The goal is to create a well rounded group of children who will be given real world experiences, regardless of their socio-economic status.

My students attend a school in the heart of San Diego. 100% of our student population receives free lunch. Since I cannot take them into the world and show them all of these amazing things, please help me to bring it to them. :)

My Project

I would like to provide my students with real world learning. So many students do not realize that there is life outside of where they live. The Scholastic News and TIME for Kids magazines will be used for in class read alouds, shared reading, as well as take home materials for them to share their new found learning with their families.

Having these non fiction reading materials will help my students see the world outside of their immediate living space and see the world as a bigger picture.

I appreciate your time in viewing my request of bringing the outside world into my classroom. I know that my students will gain so much by having these.
