This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, conversation loving, active kids that are in beginning to learn to read. Many of my students come from broken homes where parents are either split up, or they are being raised by other family members.

Our kindergarten class is composed of thirty-two students with varying needs from a poor section of New York City.

The students in this class are low academically and are in need of support and more updated interesting materials than what we currently have available in our classroom.

My Project

I have been teaching for a few years now and have noticed that classroom libraries in my school are not the most interesting! I would love to expose my students to a variety of genres and authors as well as styles of writing. This new classroom library would be a great start. We need a class library full of books from a variety of genres and levels!

I have a classroom of 32 kindergarteners in whom I want to instill a love of reading.

I want all of them to find that book that turns reading into a life long skill that brings them enjoyment. This classroom library will also allow many of my students to have books to read at home, as I will allow them to check them out. I am asking for such items as Leveled Readers A through J sets.
