Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 6th grade students are compassionate, curious, and full of potential. They come from diverse backgrounds and bring their own stories, strengths, and challenges into our classroom. What makes them special is their willingness to learn not just academics, but also about themselves and the world around them. Even when life gets tough, they show up with grit, humor, and a genuine desire to grow.

This project will provide us with individual copies of the novel House Arrest, a powerful story about a boy navigating a tough situation with strength and heart.

It’s the perfect text to explore themes of resilience, responsibility, and emotional growth—things my students can relate to on a personal level. Having their own copies will allow students to annotate, reread, and fully engage in our discussions. The clear protective book covers will help keep these books in great condition for future 6th graders to learn from as well.

My goal is to help students strengthen their reading and writing skills while also creating space for meaningful conversations about perseverance, empathy, and personal growth. With your support, we’ll create an experience that supports both academic learning and emotional development—something every middle schooler needs.
