This books is one of the best ever written for 5-6th grade students. The characters are relatable and layered with texture and depth. The Gift Giver is a rich novel that helps develop student's understanding of each other and the chance to create theater through reading. I strive to nurture a print-rich classroom with books that are relatable and accessable to a diverse level of readers. My students are self consious about reading aloud but with the creation of readers theater for parts of the book I hope to transform my students into reading stars. This book is chosen with love and care. The characters in the story are kind, vulnerable, and silly. Students instantly identify with them and enjoy reading and acting out the various characters. So many students are still struggling to return to "normal" school routines after COVID. Please help bring this great novel into our classroom.
